Balch Lake was formed approximately 150 years ago when a dam was built on the Little Ossipee River in Newfield, ME. The major inflow is controlled by Chick’s Dam on the northwestern corner of the lake. It is also fed by dozens of natural springs. Balch is approximately 4 miles long with more than 14 miles of shoreline, a maximum depth of 44 feet, and a total surface area of 704 acres. It has many peninsulas, coves, and islands. Balch is a border lake within three different towns in two states: Acton & Newfield, Maine and Wakefield, New Hampshire. There are approximately 700 private camps along its shores with 12 different property owner associations.
Balch is located within 2 hours of Boston and is about an hour to North Conway. Within an hour and a half of King Pine, and Mt. Cranmore.
The local area offers restaurants, maple syrup, apple orchards, seasonal fruit picking, hiking, ice cream, and so much more.
From the lake you can snowmobile into NH and ME. Your are also close to area ATV trails.
